Your Kindergartener and Technology

I came across this website and found it very useful with integrating technology in the kindergarten classroom. It focuses on kindergarteners using technology in the classroom in a range of subject areas including language arts, science, social studies, mathematics and even art! The activities that focus on integrating technology into the classroom, are give you the first steps to technical literacy, the use of tools to solve problems. Under each subject, the website gives ideas, activities and websites to use to incorporate technology into regular lessons that develop students’ higher order thinking skills, promote creativity and facilitate academic learning. Take a look and see what you think.

I liked the statement in the article,"Technology is not a substitute for teaching, but a valuable aid that introduces children to a wealth of resources that are otherwise unavailable in the classroom and that she will use in the future." I hate to see teachers use computers to teach concepts instead of a reinforcement to concepts taught. I like for students to have discovery learning opportunities, but there is a difference.

Hello Misty,
Would you please give us more information about what you use (have access to) in your classroom?
How much of the tech tools mentioned in this article do you use at your school?
Thank you. I'm very interested!

This website seems like a great tool for the kindergarten classroom. I think having technology in the classroom for all of the subjects will benefit these children in several ways. For starters, their knowledge of technology will increase, and their collaboration skills will begin to be seen. I also think that if kids begin to use higher order thinking skills, and creativity, at such a young age it will stick with them throughout their lifetime.

Can you effectively implement the use of technology in the kindergarten classroom?
